So far, we've talked about solutions which you can implement on your own server, and also tools on our servers which might help reduce the volume of spam which you receive.

As useful as these tools and techniques are, we can't offer any guarantees of success. Much of it will depend on how much time and effort you are willing to expend.

Our policy, up until now, has been to provide our clients with whatever tools and advice we could.

Recently, though, we discovered a much more effective solution which entails almost no expenditure of time whatsoever. This is a turn-key solution. We simply activate it for you, and the spam stops. (We estimate 99% of it does, anyway).

There is a company out of San Carlos, California, which has begun offering a spam filtering service which takes place before it ever reaches our service. We recently signed up, and have found it to be much more effective than anything we've ever tried.

The company is Postini. The process involves intercepting inbound e-mail on behalf of customers, then filtering out spam, viruses and other unwanted messages before sending the remaining messages to the customers' e-mail servers and the messages' intended recipients.

Postini has developed some filtering processes which are so effective that this little company has very quickly grabbed the lion's share of the spam filtering market.
